Lucas Ciscato is an educator whose work spans the humanities, technology, and creative design. At Phi Learning, he teaches World History, Writing Composition, and elective coursework, while also teaching Photography, Adobe Visual Design, and Adobe Video Design at a local charter high school.
An interdisciplinary path to education
Lucas began his work with WorldWiseKids as a full-time teacher, working with students of different ages across a broad range of subjects. Teaching across disciplines gave him an early appreciation for both the connections between academic subjects and the importance of adapting instruction to the individual learner. He later continued his work with WorldWiseKids part-time while pursuing his undergraduate degree.
Lucas earned his Bachelor of Science in Technology, Engineering and Design Education from North Carolina State University. His studies emphasized design, problem-solving, creativity, and learning through practical application. Today, he draws on that background teaching photography and digital design at Longleaf School of the Arts while continuing to explore the humanities through his work at Phi Learning.
Currently pursuing a master’s degree in International Studies, Lucas is further developing his interests in history, culture, global issues, and the connections between people and communities around the world. His international experiences and relationships across cultures have also shaped the perspective he brings to his teaching and his belief in helping students understand ideas beyond the boundaries of a single subject or classroom.
Meeting students where they are
In addition to classroom teaching, Lucas has substantial experience providing individualized tutoring across multiple subjects, particularly mathematics. Working one-on-one with students has reinforced his belief that there is rarely a single best way to teach or understand a concept. He enjoys finding approaches that work for individual learners and helping students develop the confidence to engage with challenging or unfamiliar material.
Whether exploring a historical question, developing an argument in writing, solving a mathematical problem, or creating something through photography and design, Lucas encourages students to ask questions, experiment, and make connections. He believes meaningful education should help students not only develop knowledge and skills, but also become more curious about the world and more confident in their ability to explore it.
